Werner Löffler

Werner Löffler acquired the first object on display, the Ettore Sottsass ‘Theodora', in 1987 - a move which turned out to be the start of what is now the Sammlung Löffler. Work by other designers soon followed: famous names like Bär + Knell, Günter Beltzig, Marcel Breuer, Tom Dixon, Charles and Ray Eames, Frank O. Gehry, Willy Guhl, Josef Hoffmann, Grete Jalk, Richard Riemerschmied, Claudio Salocchi, the aforementioned Philippe Starck, the Thonet brothers, Otto Wagner and many more make up the 700 pieces in the Sammlung Löffler.

Werner Löffler became interested in antiques when still a young man, scouring flea markets, visiting exhibitions, collecting furniture and developing a particular passion for its cultural history. At the heart of this collector's passion is a fascination with seating and the connection between contemporary history, the use of certain materials, manufacturing techniques and development processes. The Sammlung Löffler is the result of this fascination, which has - so far - lasted 20 years.

Werner Löffler pays careful attention to scientific documentation of designer, manufacturer and the historical background of each of the objects on display. Heidemarie Leitner, Mag.art., is the scientific consultant, we may look forward to an excellently curated presentation.

Werner Löffler's intense interest in historical seating continues to provide him with fresh perspectives and inspiration, influencing the latest Löffler collection designs and sparking future creative processes.
