Works by Marc Newson in the Löffler Collection

The 700 exhibits in the Löffler Collection also include works by the well-known designer Marc Newson. The Australian was awarded the Lucky Strike Designer Award in 2011.

The designer is well-known for his organically-shaped furniture. A famous example of Newson’s organic form is the Orgone Chair which he developed in 1993. The original design comes from a limited series of furniture made of aluminium. A plastic variation suitable for the mass market followed after only a short time. This 1993 plastic Orgone can be seen in the Löffler Collection.

A further design by Marc Newson is the Embryo Chair from 1988. This one has three legs made of chromed tubing and is made of moulded polyurethane plastic foam with a neoprene cover. The fibre-glass reinforced plastic Felt Chair from 1993 is also shaped organically. The Löffler Collection shows the Felt Chair in black and in a white-painted version with amorphous coloured surfaces from a limited edition from 2005.

Marc Newson designed the Coast Chair for the Coast Restaurant in London in 1995. The oak chair's padding is made of yellow-painted polyurethane foam. The restaurant closed in 1999 but three years later the chair was remade in injection-moulded polypropylene and fibreglass by the Magis company in Italy for display at the Milan furniture trade fair. The Collection includes an original chair from 1995.

The Löffler Edition has presented the Orgone and the Bucky as a remake by Marc Newson since 2011. Both products will be exhibited at Passagen 2012 in Cologne from 16 to 22 January 2012 along with other models of the Löffler Edition.
